The Benefits of Installing a Remote Starter

The Benefits of Installing a Remote Starter

24th Nov 2022

How do you start your vehicle? If you're still using a key to manually turn the ignition, you may want to install a remote starter. It will allow you to start your vehicle remotely by pressing a button on a key fob. While the end result is the same -- your vehicle's engine will start -- installing a remote starter offers several benefits.

Defrost the Windshield

There's no easier way to defrost your vehicle's windshield during the winter than by using a remote starter. If you park outside, it may take up to 10 minutes for the ice to completely thaw and melt so that you can see out the windshield. You can always walk outside to start your vehicle manually, but an easier solution is to use a remote starter. As long as you are within close range of your vehicle, you can start it by pressing a key fob button. Many drivers use a remote starter specifically for the convenience of defrosting the windshield with the click of a button.

Warm Up the Engine

In addition to defrosting the windshield, a remoter starter will warm up your vehicle's engine remotely. Whether or not engines need to be warmed up before driving is open to debate. Some experts believe it protects engines from premature wear and tear, whereas others believe that engines don't need to be warmed up.

Regardless, warming up the engine will allow certain fluids to flow more easily. Oil will become thinner and less viscous, thus flowing more easily through the engine. Coolant will also perform better after the engine has warmed up. It will expand and pressure while reaching its operating temperature. With a remote starter, you can warm up your vehicle's engine remotely without ever stepping into the driver's seat.

Cool the Interior During the Summer

You don't have to worry about driving in uncomfortably hot temperatures during the summer. If you install a remote starter, you can cool your vehicle's interior beforehand.

Cabin temperatures can reach scorching-hot temperatures during the summer. Even if it's only 90 degrees Fahrenheit outside, the temperature of your vehicle's cabin may reach up to 130 degrees Fahrenheit. Rather than driving in uncomfortably hot temperatures such as this, you should run the air conditioner for a short period before driving. You can start your vehicle by using a remote starter. Once your vehicle starts, the air conditioner will automatically turn on.

These are just a few benefits of installing a remote starter. You can use it to defrost the windshield, warm up the engine and cool the interior -- all without stepping into the driver's seat and turning the ignition with a key.
